Overview:

This course is designed for all practitioners, including those who are new to mental health law and those seeking re-accreditation.

The full day course attracts 6 hours of professional development. It will include an overview of the legal and procedural framework for mental health law, and opportunities for delegates to apply it including:

  1. Brief overview of key case law underpinning mental health practice
  2. An overview of the Mental Health Act 2025
  3. An outline of   other  recent  developments in case law and procedure
  4. Case studies to apply the learning
  5. Q & A on accreditation and re-accreditation

The course is designed to ensure practitioners feel confident about deploying law and procedure in mental health cases.  It will serve to refresh knowledge of key cases that are applied in everyday practice, as well as new and recent developments in legislation, policy and case law. It will aid those seeking accreditation and reaccreditation for the Law Society Mental Health Panel to have a good grasp of the law and procedure that they are expected to be able to demonstrate.
