It is acknowledged that the key point of any case before the tribunal is often ‘risk’. This one-day course is designed to enhance advocacy and case preparation skills. The focus is on preparing for advocacy, with advice on cross-examination of the medical witnesses and taking evidence-in-chief from the client, along with formulation and delivery of effective submissions.
The course will also cover:
– understanding mental disorder, nature and degree
– psychiatric medications
– consent to treatment provisions
– understanding, testing, challenging and addressing evidence of ‘risks’
– instructing independent psychiatrists appropriately and using their evidence at tribunal effectively
This course will be delivered by Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist Dr Callum Ross and experienced mental health solicitors Tam Gill and Neil Cronin. There will also be an interactive element based on case scenarios looking at risk, risk management and formulating cross-examination of the medical witness, with full opportunities to ask any questions of the panel of speakers throughout the day. It is suitable for both new and experienced representatives and is highly commended by previous delegates.
“Extremely helpful insights and anecdotes from the speakers.”
